This is your quintessential "out in the backcountry" home cooking restaurant.  Elk Park, for anyone that knows it, is a small town in the far western part of NC...literally a mile or so from Tennessee.    The Ole Country House sits right on the main road on the western side of town.

The menu here consists of sandwiches and "meat and veggies" type meals.  Wifey and I visit here every time we come down to our NC home.  Our favorite is the "Honey Stung Chicken."  This is some VERY good fried chicken that has just a bit of honey flavor to it...we think they must marinate the chicken in some the flavor comes directly from the meat (but, we have never asked).

As side dishes, in a place like this, you should always get some potatoes.  We like their mashed and, recently, had the potato casserole...which was some very good stewed potatoes with a hash brown side...kind of a side dish to the side dish!  The second side dish of choice is their cole slaw...a pretty typical dish.

Very good place!  We like it!

We were staying in a mountain home in Elk Park and ran across Sissy's. We decided to try it out for breakfast one morning which lead to us returning again during our stay. This is your "down home country cooking". Elk Park is a small town near the Tennessee line and Sissy's is most definitely the local hangout early in the morning. With that said, we were greeted with hospitality and treated like a local. Between my family members we tried the eggs, pancakes, bacon, hash browns, omelette, biscuits and gravy. The food was great and the staff were very friendly and attentive. If we are ever in the Elk Park area again we'll make this a stop for sure.

The honey stung chicken was outstanding, the Philly cheesesteak was delicious, the double bacon cheeseburger was cooked perfectly!  The service was fantastic. The whole staff was so kind and welcoming. The food was truly some of the best home cooking we have ever had!  The prices were excellent. The little country shop is a gem of the mountains!  Thank you, ladies of Sissy's, for a wonderful family lunch experience and for loving on our sweet little Maverick so my wife could finish her meal!  We will definitely return!

Found this place as I was roaming around the back woods in NC. Must be the original down home diner! Food was awesome! I had the "Ole Country House Special Burger" and it was fantastic! It looked so good I ate it before snapping a picture! :-) Fries were cooked to perfection as well. Very clean eating area and restrooms. Certainly a piece of Americana. Oh BTW they offer WiFi as well. Enjoy!
